Republican presidential candidate Newt Gingrich has an explanation for the views that have been bringing him so much flak over the past couple days. His views are “evolving” is the way he puts it, The Des Moines Register reports.

Gingrich, president, GOPGingrich specifically received criticism for branding House Budget Committee Chairman Paul Ryan’s attempt at Medicare reform as social engineering. Gingrich also expressed support for a mandate for individual health insurance Sunday, before reversing his opinion Monday.

“The challenges that we face are so big, that no one has the solutions,” he told reporters. “We’re going to have to run a campaign where ideas keep evolving.” That will “drive the media crazy, because they’ll want to play gotcha,” accusing him of reversing positions, Gingrich said.
