Many average citizens are disgusted that Republicans and Democrats can’t cooperate to solve the nation’s major problems. And many of their former representatives to Congress agree,
Politico reports.

A group of 130 former members of Congress – Democrats and Republicans – sent a letter to all congressional candidates in both parties, urging them to get off the low road.
The time has come to change “this sorry state of affairs … and focus on problem solving,” the group, Former Members of Congress for Common Ground, wrote.
Congress “appears gripped by zero-sum game partisanship, in which the goal often seems to be more to devastate the other side ... than to find common ground to solve problems,” they observe. “We have met the enemy. And it is us.”
The group is led by former Reps. John Porter, R-Ill. (pictured) , and David Skaggs, D-Colo.
