LAS VEGAS — Nevada Sen. Harry Reid says he thinks enough leaders will convene for an energy summit in Las Vegas next month to develop meaningful plans to use more renewable energy.
Reid said Wednesday that former President Bill Clinton, New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg and Texas oilman T. Boone Pickens are among the speakers scheduled to take part in the Aug. 19 event at UNLV.
Reid says it's important that the country develop new energy plans for economic and national security reasons.
He says developing renewable energy would create jobs in the U.S. and help the country send less money abroad for energy.
Clinton says the "downward path" of the economy is a good argument for financing renewable energy because of the costs of oil and coal.
