Crossroads GPS has rolled out the second phase of its $20 million advertising campaign targeting five Democratic senators and pushing a no taxes and spending cuts message.
The conservative group will spend $7 million running the commercials on cable and broadcast stations in Colorado, Iowa, North Carolina, New Mexico, Nevada, and Virginia. State-specific ads will also run targeting Sens. Bill Nelson, D-Fla.; Claire McCaskill, D-Mo.; Jon Tester, D-Mont.; Ben Nelson, D-Neb.; and Sherrod Brown, D-Ohio.
"As the debt limit negotiations heat up, we need to counter the power of the president’s bully pulpit and make sure Americans are getting the facts,” said Steven Law, president of Crossroads GPS. "President Obama and his congressional allies have already wasted hundreds of billions of our tax dollars, and we need to send them the message that they don’t deserve another penny in taxes.”
The national commercial, "Wake Up," will be backed up with extensive Internet advertising. The commercial features a woman unable to sleep at 3 a.m. because she is worried about her children and the future. In the voice-over, she says, “I supported president Obama because he spoke so beautifully but since then things gone from bad to much worse.”
