Terrorist Threats Raise Fed Alert

With the Democratic National Convention less than a week away, federal officials are on heightened alert for terror threats.

According to Fox News, a jihadist Web site favored by al-Qaida has called on supporters to poison the water supply of an unnamed major city. And in Denver, where the convention is to be held Aug. 25-28, a Canadian immigrant was found dead in a hotel room with a pound of cyanide. The victim's hotel was just blocks from the convention site.

The Web posting offers would-be terrorists information on the best ways to plan and execute an attack, including the advice not to use cell phones when carrying out a plot.

Although there is no definitive link tying both cases together, federal investigators are concerned enough to probe both incidents.

U.S. officials have ramped up anti-terror efforts lately, fearing that al-Qaida could be attracted to high-profile events like the Olympics and the two political conventions.
