Clinton Supporters: Hillary Will Never Fade Away

By    |   Friday, 29 August 2008 01:35 PM EDT

Hillary Clinton has lost the Democratic presidential race to Barack Obama and been overlooked as a running mate, but her supporters and former delegates remain optimistic about her future.

For now, Clinton will serve as a top surrogate for Obama’s presidential campaign and other Democratic candidates in the 2008 election.

“But after that Clinton will have the opportunity to define her role in the Democratic Party nationally,” Congressional Quarterly observed.

“And according to several of her top supporters — the delegates she released Wednesday — Clinton should continue pushing the issues central to her presidential campaign.”

One Clinton delegate, Rhonda Hennessy of Northville, Mich., told CQ: “Hillary Clinton will never fade away. I think she’ll always champion children’s issues and health care because they’ve been her issues”.

And Kevin Malecek, a Clinton delegate from Willoughby Hills, Ohio, said: “Assuming Senator Obama gets elected, she could be somebody to carry water for him in the Senate and be a strong voice for health care reform. That’s really her issue.”

Malecek speculated that Clinton could one day become Democratic leader in the Senate.
