New Jersey Gov.
Chris Christie has given top Republican fundraisers his word that he would not make a bid for the GOP presidential nomination. Christie made the promises as recently as last week,
The Wall Street Journal reports.

Among those he promised were Meg Whitman, who made an unsuccessful run for the California governor last year. Whitman, currently the CEO for Hewlett-Packard, is a supporter of Mitt Romney. She agreed to hold a fundraiser for the New Jersey GOP only on the promise that Christie would not run for president, the Journal reports.
The fundraiser for 15 couples took place last Wednesday at the Silicon Valley home of Whitman and her husband. At the $15,000 per couple event, Christie was asked if he was going to enter the presidential race and he replied, “No,” sources told the paper.
