Archbishop Charles Chaput of Denver says Democratic vice presidential nominee Sen. Joe Biden's pro-abortion stance means he should avoid taking Communion.
"I certainly presume his good will and integrity," the archbishop said, according to the Washington Times. "And I presume that his integrity will lead him to refrain from presenting himself for Communion if he supports a false 'right' to abortion."
Chaput told The Associated Press that he would like to speak privately with Biden, a Catholic.
In the 2004 election, more than a dozen bishops stated that Democratic nominee Sen. John Kerry should not take Communion, because of his stance on abortion.
Catholics represent more than a quarter of the U.S. electorate.
