If an actor can become president, why can’t a swimming pool technician become a congressman?
Several congressional candidates in this year’s elections have unconventional backgrounds for national politicians,
The Hill reports.

Pat Brock, left, a swimming pool technician and Libertarian candidate for Congress in Hawaii, is one of them. Sydney Dudikoff, an unaffiliated write-in Senate candidate in Arizona, is another. She is founder and director of Lilpoets Inc., a literacy organization. And then there is Republican congressional candidate Merlin Froyd, an actor and car salesman in California.
As for Brock, he explains how his skills at the pool would aid him in Congress.
“In order to solve any problem, you must be analytical,” he says. You need to find out what parts of your system work and at what point in the system the breakdown occurs. Then you must decide what is the most economically sized module to replace in order to restore the system.”
