KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Republican presidential candidate Herman Cain nabbed the most votes by far in a straw poll taken at the National Federation of Republican Women's convention in Kansas City.
The organization announced Sunday night that the Georgia businessman won 48.9 percent of the 505 total votes cast Saturday. Cain, along with former House Speaker Newt Gingrich and former Sen. Rick Santorum, spoke at the event.
Texas Gov. Rick Perry placed second, with 14.1 percent of the votes. Former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney won 13.3 percent of the votes and Gingrich 12.5 percent.
None of the other vote-getters, including Santorum, topped the 10-percent threshold.
The organization's president, Sue Lynch, says the poll is significant because the voters are influential in their states and communities. The voters included Republican women convention-goers from 41 states.
