Lockheed to Update Air Force Stimulators

By    |   Tuesday, 10 January 2012 07:28 AM EST

Lockheed Martin has been awarded a $24 million contract to upgrade U.S. Air Force weapons systems trainers for the C-130 Aircrew Training System ATS II, the Dayton Daily News reported Monday.

The program provides simulation and academic training for C-130 crews worldwide. Lockheed Martin will update the simulators’ visual systems and imagery databases, which will then provide the most advanced, realistic training, Air Force officials said. The work is scheduled to take place over the next two years.

“The C-130 training effort continuously evolves with advancements in technology to effectively prepare aircrews for their high precision tactical airlift missions,” said Stephen Grotjan, C-130 ATS program manager for the U.S. Air Force Materiel Command, headquartered at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base near Dayton.

The updated systems will allow for enhanced cockpit illumination, advanced visuals and the latest infrared night vision training.
