President Barack Obama and first lady Michelle Obama will appear on Oprah Winfrey’s televsion show on May 2, the Washington Wire

blog of the Wall Street Journal reports. In a sign that the president’s re-election campaign has begun, the first couple will travel to Chicago later this month to tape a segement with the billionaire chat host who has become one of the administration’s biggest boosters.
Winfrey backed then-Sen. Obama in the Democratic primaries and has continued to give him approving media exposure through her television show and "O" magazine. The First Lady was Winfrey’s on-air guest in January.
The May 2 segment could be a last hurrah of sorts, or at least the loss of a friendly media outlet for the Obamas, since “The Oprah Winfrey Show” will be retired at the end of the current television season.
