Merry Christmas, in Spite of It All

Herman Cain By Monday, 24 December 2012 10:41 AM EST Current | Bio | Archive

A horrible school tragedy in Newtown, Connecticut. Super Storm Sandy victims still waiting to rebuild. A partisan political divide that will further sink our economy.

Class warfare rhetoric on steroids by the President. A black United States Senator from South Carolina being called a "token." Our military heroes fighting wars they are trying to understand.

Millions of people unemployed just looking for a chance. Frustration and pessimism all over this land. Divided we stand and divided we will continue to fall.

Where's the peace on earth and goodwill toward man?

We have major problems and they are not getting better. Chaos, conflict, uncertainty, and apathy have become the new normal. Most of us do not like it, but we are perplexed as to what to do about it. Regrettably, half of us don't even care, or are clueless. It's all about what's in it for them.

Call me a dreamer and an eternal optimist. Yes I am, because I refuse to give up on the better and stronger side of our nature. It just needs inspiration to believe that we can change things for the better, if we all do what we can do. No one said it would be easy, but we must start somewhere, and it starts in each individual.

Not everyone is going to see the light, but we can save the savable. That's enough to save our nation, which has not lost all of its greatness.

So yes! Merry Christmas, because HEcame to save the world against the odds, and has saved some of us as the work is not done. Even those who do not believe still celebrate the season, even if they do not feel the real reason.

HE gives us hope that we can bear the unbearable sorrow, and fight the beatable foes. We must not defeat ourselves.

HE didn't.

Merry Christmas!
