I have mentioned before the problems of approving drugs that have been prescribed to patients for a number of years. This type of problem is growing in frequency and causes significant difficulty for patients who want to continue taking their medications.

For instance, recently some authorities have claimed that the product Armour Thyroid is contraindicated for elderly people. However, I am very skeptical of that claim, as the product is used much more frequently for thyroid problems in England, where they do not use the synthetic drugs which the pharmaceutical companies over here promote.

The patients that I have given Armour Thyroid have done very well, and I am not aware of any of my patients that have complications while taking the product.

One of the advantages of the product is that it has a longer active life in the body, therefore missing or delaying a dose does not cause as much problem as the synthetic thyroid products. I have continued to use the Armour Thyroid products for my patients.

Again, I believe that we need to move to the more holistic practice of medicine, where we use natural products to control the disease process that is causing the symptoms rather than using the prescription and over-the-counter medications that treat only the symptoms and do not treat the underlying process. That type of treatment only leads to continued reliance on taking medications for the benefits of pharmaceutical companies.
