I have been researching lately about how to burn fat as your body’s main source of fuel. And I found that is that it is, in fact, very possible to retrain your body to have fat as its main fuel source.
When you begin to make this transition, it is difficult because sugar is so addicting and in so many food products. I started my personal journey off slowly finding ways I could incorporate more fat into my diet.
But I’m not suggesting you eat a stick of butter evert time you crave sugar. It’s a gradual process to train your body not to need sugar.
Let me explain.
Ketones are chemical compounds the body creates when there is a shortage of insulin from meaning less sugar and carbohydrates in the diet. The body makes ketones to burn instead of glucose.
When ketones in the body reach a high level, the body switches from burning sugar to fat metabolism. Then the body begins to burn its own fat as fuel and you can begin to manage your weight.
What is in a ketone-rich diet? Mostly fats and proteins with little to no carbohydrates. For example
• Animal fats and protein like wild caught fish, grass fed beef, cage free pasture eggs and many more
• Coconut oil and butter
• Low glycemic vegetables like green leafs, radishes, onions, leeks, garlic, peppers, avocados, and many more
• Low sugar fruits like berries, kiwis, and grapefruits
• Lots of water
In addition, a ketogenic diet includes no coffee or soda and no refined sugars or carbohydrates.
Slowly change your diet by adding in more healthy fats and lean proteins, and transitioning away from being a sugar addict. Drink more water with sea salt or Himalayan pink salt added to it.
The body will begin to detoxify and your metabolism will change.
I hope I have inspired you to make a healthy and fun transition into eating more fat and more protein no matter what your current diet is.
