New York surgeons have helped a British man, informally known as the world’s fattest, to shed 650 pounds — two thirds the weight once carried by his 980-pound frame.
According to
The New York Times, Paul Mason underwent a nine-and-a-half-hour weight-loss operation last month.
The Times reports Mason’s biggest challenge was the loss of the last 50 pounds, because of loose skin that hung over his body.
He now longer needs to use a wheelchair, can go for a walk, take a shower standing up, and get easily in and out of bed, he told
The Times.
“It seems a bit weird,” said Mason, 54, from Ipswich, England. “I’d got so used to maneuvering my excess skin out of the way.”
Surgeons at New York’s Lenox Hill Hospital performed the operation.
