Tommy Chong, of “Cheech & Chong” fame, is undergoing cancer treatment again, this time for rectal cancer, reports say.
"I've had some medical issues lately," Chong was quoted as telling
US Weekly, “I got diagnosed with rectal cancer."
Chong, who also starred in That '70s Show, and set a record Dancing with the Stars, after being the oldest star to make it to the semifinals, was previously diagnosed with prostate cancer in 2012.
About 39,610 new cases of rectal cancer occur each year, the American Cancer Society says. Although there is no firm link between the two cancers, some studies find an increased risk for rectal cancer if the prostate cancer treatment includes radiation.
It isn’t known if Chong received radiation; in previous interviews, he had stated that his prostate cancer was caught early, and he was using only hemp and cannabis oil, along with supplements, to cure it.
The 77-year-old star is well known for his onscreen stoner persona and he is a vocal advocate for the decriminalization of the cannabis.
As for his current battle, he told the magazine, “I’m using cannabis now, more so than ever before.”
