Suzanne Wright, a co-founder of Autism Speaks, has died from complications of pancreatic cancer. She was 69.
The New York Times reports that Wright found the charity to fights for autistic children and teach people how to spot and deal with the disorder.
She took up the cause after her grandson, Christian, stopped speaking when he was two and a half years old and was diagnosed of autism.
She and her and her husband, Bob Wright — at the time the president and chief executive of NBC — founded Autism Speaks in 2005.
Wright created the Autism Speaks logo, a blue jigsaw puzzle piece. It was intended to reflect how disconnected autism patients and their families could feel.
