CNN medical correspondent Sanjay Gupta, M.D., is taking a stand in support of the legalization of medical marijuana.

In an editorial posted on CNN.com, Dr. Gupta says he and other medical professional have done "nothing for too long" in pressing for legalizing pot for the treatment of various health conditions.

He also noted “signs of a revolution everywhere” on the issue, with support for legalization rising in the past few years — 53 percent of Americans favor legalizing weed, and 77 percent supporting its use for medical purposes, according to a recent poll.

“Journalists shouldn't take a position. It makes sense. Objectivity is king,” he writes. “But, at some point, open questions do get answered. At some point, contentious issues do get resolved. At some point, common sense prevails.

“So, here it is: We should legalize medical marijuana. We should do it nationally. And, we should do it now.”
