Comedian Roseanne Barr revealed she is slowing going blind. "I have macular degeneration and glaucoma," she told the Daily Beast. There is no cure, and doctors haven't told her how long it will be before she completely loses her vision.
"My vision is closing in now," the 62-year-old actress said. "It’s something weird. But there are other weird things. That one's harsh, 'cause I read a lot, and then I thought, 'Well, I guess I could hire somebody to read for me and read to me.'"
Barr made the comment while attending the Tribeca Film Festival in New York City to promote her documentary "Roseanne for President," which covers her 2012 presidential run.
She also revealed that her eye problems are the reason she smokes marijuana, but that the drug does more than just relieve the pressure in her eyes and is a "good medicine for a lot of things.
"It's expansive," she told the Daily Beast. "It opens your mind. You're like, 'Wow,' you're in awe. You look up into the stars. It makes you wonder. It doesn't close that down."
Marijuana also relieves the pain that comes with her eye conditions, including a "cyber lens" in her left eye, that is painful when exposed to flash bulbs. "An instant migraine," she tweeted.
Barr is facing her future by living her life to the fullest now. "I just try and enjoy vision as much as possible," she told the Daily Beast, y'know, living it up."
