Kelly Osbourne: I Have Same Cancer Gene as Angelina Jolie

Wednesday, 25 March 2015 03:37 PM EDT

Kelly Osbourne has revealed that she carries the same genetic mutation — BRCA1 — that prompted Angelina Jolie Pitt to undergo preventive surgery to remove her breasts, ovaries, and fallopian tubes.

The genetic mutation puts women at a significantly higher risk breast and ovarian cancers.

Osbourne, 30, opened up about her condition on Tuesday’s episode of her cancer survivor mother Sharon's chat show, “The Talk,” Fox News reports.

“I actually do have the cancer gene,” Osbourne said on the show. “My mom made all of us go and get tested after she found out she had it and got her double mastectomy.”

She added that, like Jolie, Osbourne expects to have a preventive double mastectomy.
