Janice Dickinson will undergo surgery for early stage breast cancer, the former supermodel and TV reality show star has revealed.
Dickinson, 61, says that the cancer, a “pea-sized lump,” in her breast, was discovered after she visited her doctor for minor stomach trouble earlier this month, a story in the
Daily Mail Online says.
She was diagnosed with ductal carcinoma in situ (DCIS), which is very early stage breast cancer, after undergoing a mammogram and biopsy to confirm the diagnosis. Doctors have ruled out a mastectomy, but instead have opted to will remove the lump, the report said.
Cancer was also detected in as many as three of Dickinson’s lymph nodes, and she will have to undergo radiation therapy on the cancerous cells and take a course of medication, but the chances of her survival are good, her fiance, Dr. Robert “Rocky” Gerner, is quoted as saying.
Dickinson, who is also among the plaintiffs accusing Bill Cosby for sexual assault, has been open in the past about her health issues with anorexia, bulimia, and alcoholism, says she is not sidestepping this battle either. Her treatment will be followed on the syndicated TV reality show “The Doctors” beginning April 6, the report says.
“Don't feel sorry for me, I'm gonna stick around for a long, long time,” Dickinson was quoted as saying.
