When Keyanna Rivera went to her doctor for a regularly scheduled prenatal checkup, she didn't think she'd be leaving with her baby in her arms. But 10 minutes after arriving, she went into labor.
Rivera's doctor was miles away at the hospital, but it was soon obvious the baby wasn't going to wait. "His head was just hanging there," Rivera told nbcnewsnewyork. "Yes, he was ready."
Little Raphael was set to arrive, doctor or not doctor, so the office medical assistants sprang into action. As Rivera's husband held up a phone, the doctor watched and gave step-by-step instructions using FaceTime, as Oswaida Torres delivered the baby.
"I was a little nervous," Torres told nbcnewsnewyork. "Thank you to the Lord that everything worked out and mommy and baby are doing great."
"Everything happened so fast," Rivera said. "I think we got there at 11:30 - and he was out by 11:50."
