Eating may be the last thing on the mind of a person experiencing nausea, but some foods may help settle the stomach. Small portions of foods may alleviate symptoms of nausea and move faster through the digestive system without intensifying the problems. Some people need to slowly test the best foods their body can tolerate during sickness.
The University of California San Francisco Medical Center recommends eating small portions of low-fat foods as the body adjusts and recovers from nausea. Eating smaller meals more often throughout the day provides the body with the necessary calories and protein.
Here are five of the best foods to ease stomach problems during bouts of nausea:

1. Crackers and plain bread or toast are among the bland
foods to start out with for nausea, WebMD explained. Light foods and small meals are necessary in the treatment of nausea, as well as avoiding fried or greasy foods and sweets. Saltine crackers and toast help to absorb stomach acids and prevent an
upset stomach, according to Livestrong.
MedlinePlus also suggests bland foods such as English muffins, potatoes, noodles, rice, and baked chicken and fish.
2. Vegetables help maintain proper nutrition with protein and other nutrients for chronic nausea. WebMD recommended a variety of vegetables among the best foods for nausea.
3. Fruit, especially bland varieties such as apples and bananas, helps to settle the stomach. Fruit has high fiber and may rid the body of chemicals that contribute to nausea. Fruit also makes a better-tasting food to overcome nausea when some foods can make people ill just from the smell of cooking them.
4. Nuts, including the ingredients in peanut butter, provide the body with protein to relieve symptoms of nausea. Salty foods might be tolerable and help the stomach when vomiting has occurred, according to the University of California San Francisco Medical Center.

5. Clear liquids are recommended for nausea. Chicken broth and clear soups may help to relieve stomach problems. Regular chicken soup might be too heavy for nausea. Sipping cold, clear beverages, including ginger ale and lemonade, helps to settle the stomach while providing the body with hydration. Ginger tea may also help when the stomach doesn’t yet tolerate solid foods. Popsicles and Jell-O might also help, according to Medline Plus.
