Under Armour, the company primarily known for its moisture-wicking workout wear, designed face coverings called Sportsmasks to address the concerns of people who want to exercise comfortably during the coronavirus pandemic.
The $30 masks are made with the recommended three layers of material for fabric masks, but are more comfortable and breathable than traditional face coverings. The only drawback is that they sold out in less than an hour and won't be available again until July.
According to USA Today, Under Armour CEO Patrik Frisk tweeted that customers can start preordering their masks for the July shipment. The product was developed to meet the needs of people who breathe heavily during a workout and found regular masks challenging to wear. Sportsmasks have a moldable nose-bridge and air pockets that provide structure while facilitating breathing. The material also contains an antimicrobial substance called PROTX2 that inhibits the growth of bacteria, said USA Today.
The UA Sportsmask is available in black and charcoal grey and comes in sizes ranging from small to extra large. According to the Under Armour website, the mask is designed to be worn all day and when playing sports. The company said its product meets recommendations by the World Health Organization for fabric masks, but should not be considered a medical-grade face covering.
