They may not be real doctors, but they play them on TV. Now the folks behind medical dramas like “The Resident”, “Station 19”, “Pose” and “The Good Doctor” have decided to donate masks, gloves and gowns from their wardrobe department as they shut down production due the coronavirus pandemic according to Fox News.

According to Vice, despite the fact that the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) have asked consumers not to stockpile these medically essential items, hospitals across the country are suffering dire shortages.

Bonnie Castillo, the executive director of National Nurses United, revealed that nurses have been asked to reuse their masks, even though surgical masks “provide no protection” against the coronavirus.

“As more healthcare workers get sick and have exposure, we get sidelined, and then who’s there to take care of the patients?” she asked.

Fortunately, for the real medical workers on the front lines of this worldwide fight, some fictional TV docs have stepped up to the plate. Fox’s “The Resident” gave boxes of protective equipment to Atlanta’s Grady Memorial Hospital.

“Thank you for this incredibly generous donation,” said Dr. Karen Law, a rheumatologist at the hospital. She wrote on Instagram that she had told her residents that supplies were low but it was unlikely that a “magical” shipment would arrive.

“And yet, a magical shipment of masks DID arrive, in the form of a very generous gesture,” she wrote. “This kind of community support means so much to our frontline providers.”

“Pose” director Ryan Murphy announced that his FX show would donate all of their on-set masks, according to Variety.

“Today we donated all of our prop supplies to Mount Sinai hospital to help nurses and doctors battling the COVID outbreak. Let’s all keep giving when and where we can,” he posted on Instagram.
