Reports that topical sunscreens can cause skin cancer are causing people to avoid using the very products that could save them from developing skin cancer or aging prematurely, say experts. Most of the research has been done on lab animals, not humans, said Dr. Jeffrey Dover, president of the American Society for Dermatologic Surgery.
It's dubious at best, he told HealthDay. "Are you going to make a decision that could impact your — or your kids' — future by allowing yourself to get skin cancer and age prematurely based on some information from a lab study on animals in Europe?" he asked. "The answer is no."
