Stella Artois is voluntarily recalling select packages containing 11.2-ounce bottles of beer that may contain particles of glass.

The recall includes:

• Stella Artois 6-packs, 12-packs, 18-packs, and 24-packs.
• Individual Stella Artois bottles in “Best of Belgium” multi-packs in the U.S. and Canada.
• Stella Artois Légère 6-packs and 12-packs in the U.S.

The company estimates the number of potentially affected bottles is less than 1 percent of Stella Artois glass bottles sold in North America annually. But officials decided to recall certain packages as a precaution.

Five consumer complaints have been received, according to a company representative.

Any consumers who have purchased beer covered by the recall will be eligible for reimbursement. Consumers are advised not to consume or allow others to consume the potentially-affected product.

“The safety of our consumers is our top priority. While the number of potentially-affected glass bottles is very small, we are recalling these Stella Artois packages as a precautionary measure,” said Christina Choi, Global Brand VP for Stella Artois, in a statement.

“Our team of technical experts has been working with our third-party glass bottle supplier to ensure this packaging flaw has been addressed.”

Stella Artois is owned by Belgian-based Anheuser-Busch InBev, which also owns Budweiser and Corona.
