Standing up for three hours a day can add two years to your life.
That’s the simple, life-saving message from Dr. Mike Loosemore, who heads the Institute of Sports Exercise at University College London, reports The Independent.
“There is now enormous evidence that simply standing makes huge differences to your health,” he says. “…Even a small amount of activity can make major health gains, and this is what the population really needs to be taught.”
Standing regularly and doing other “low-level” exercise can change people’s lives for the better, he says, and is more practical than government guidelines in the UK that recommend 30 minutes of moderate exercise five days a week.
