For many of us, smartphones have become inextricable from our daily lives: We use them to text, talk, and surf the Web. Now it seems some people continue using them in their sleep — sleep texting, CBS 2 in New York reports.

The practice is resulting in jumbled, nonsensical messages being sent to friends and clients, which can be embarrassing. But the health of the sleep-deprived text senders also is being affected.
“They’re not getting the deep sleep or the rapid eye movement which is really critical to higher brain function,” sleep specialist Dr. Josh Werber tells CBS 2.
