"Little House on the Prairie" star Melissa Gilbert has opened up about surgery she underwent this week to remove her breast implants.
In a lengthy blog post the 50-year-old actress went into great detail about her decision,
Fox News reports.
"A. I am concerned for my health and 2. I don't like the way they look or feel," she explained. "Frankly, I'd like to be able to take a Zumba class without the fear that I'll end up with two black eyes."
Gilbert said during the last few seasons of “Little House” she was “made to wear a padded bra." she reveals.
"When I did the re-make of 'Splendor in the Grass' (one of the worst performances of my career, by the way), those in charge, put me in a girdle, a corset, a padded bra and even painted cleavage on me! They also shaded the sides of my nose so it wouldn't look so wide. [Two years later] the messages had been heard loud and clear and I'd had my nose fixed."
She added: "This is our culture. It has been for a long, long time and I fell right into it. I believed that, not only would I work more, but people would love me more if I looked a certain way. Sad but true. My self-image was in the proverbial toilet."
Gilbert decided to get a breast augmentation in 1992 and went under the knife again to replace her 12-year-old implants and got a breast lift.
