A surprised Rush Limbaugh received the Presidential Medal of Freedom from first lady Melania Trump during President Donald Trump's State of the Union address Wednesday night.

It brought him from wiping away tears to smiles before a joint session of Congress. Limbaugh, famously a conservative radio host, announced this week he was diagnosed with advanced lung cancer.

"This is not good news, but what is good news is that he is the greatest fighter and winner you will ever meet," Trump said during his address. "Rush Limbaugh, thank you for your tireless devotion to our country."

Limbaugh expressed shock and wiped away tears when he was told of his receiving the Presidential Medal of Freedom, the nation's highest civilian honor.

"And Rush, in recognition for all that you have done for our nation, the millions of people a day that you speak to and inspire, and all of the incredible work that you have done for charity, I am proud to announce tonight that will be receiving our country's highest civilian honor, the Presidential Medal of Freedom," Trump said.
