An Oklahoma mom blames a daycare worker for her daughter's herpes, according to a report by CBS Houston. Consuela Smith told KFOR-TV that her child began getting blisters around her mouth and bleeding.
After a doctor confirmed the 1-year-old toddler had herpes, Smith contacted ChildTime daycare center in Oklahoma City, which confirmed that one of their workers had the virus.
Dr. Ryan Brown of Oklahoma University's Children's Hospital said that the herpes virus spreads easily. "Herpetic stomatitis is basically when you have multiple cold sores in your mouth," he told KFOR. "Cold sores are normally caused by herpes simplex one virus. They are very easily spread, by touching and rubbing something else or saliva."
The daycare center says it is investigating the incident.
