In Luke 4:23, Jesus is quoted as saying, “Physician, heal thyself.” That often-quoted piece of advice should go to the doctors in Florida who recently attended a home party July 10. The aftermath of the gathering was that 17 anesthesiology residents and one fellow tested positive for the coronavirus. The 18 healthcare workers were from the anesthesiology department at the University of Florida Health.
According to Newsweek, UF Health officials issued a statement that read: “State and federal privacy laws are such that we often can’t comment on specific situations, and like other businesses, employees on occasion get sick. As a healthcare system, we follow a variety of processes and protocols designed to reduce risk and the chances of that happening.”
The number of COVID-19 cases in Florida continues to surge, surpassing 451,000 cases and 6,332 deaths.
The 18 doctors were recovering at home, according to the Miami Herald, and their anesthesiology department said it “wished them well and a speedy return to good health.”
Experts warn that house parties and social gatherings have become major risk factors in the spread of the coronavirus, giving party goers a false sense of security that they are safe among people they know.
