The best solution for chronic insomnia, which affects 50 percent of people middle-aged and older, may not be a prescription but a trip to the gym. Research from Northwestern University found that adults could improve the quality of their sleep with aerobic exercise, reports WebMD.
Researchers studied three groups of older adults for 16 weeks. One group had two 20-minute workouts four times a week, and the second group worked out 30-40 minutes four times a week. A control group indulged in mental activities.
Both groups that exercised reported that their sleep quality went from poor to good. They also reported improvements in vitality and mood.
