Good news for parents: Diagnosing your kid’s ear infections might soon be as simple as taking a video on your smartphone. CellScope has come out with a device called the Oto Home that attaches to an iPhone and shoots a video of your child's inner ear and sends it to a licensed physician for diagnosis.
The approach could replace the need for a timely or costly doctor visit, and allow a prescription to be dialed in by phone or sent by e-mail in as little as two hours,
Cnet.com reports.
The Oto Home device itself costs $79, plus another $49 each time you ask a physician for medical advice. That’s a lot less than a typical office visit.
For now, the device is only available for the iPhone 5 and 5s, but the company promises iPhone 6 availability soon. No word on whether that will expand onto other mobile platforms like Android, Windows Phone, or BlackBerry.
