If you are thinking of traveling for the holidays during the second wave of the coronavirus and plan to stay at a hotel, a startup has compiled a list of the safest venues based on their cleaning and sanitation practices. The Safe Travel Barometer ranks hotels and other travel destinations worldwide and says it is ''the world’s largest and most comprehensive tool to monitor COVID-19 travel safety, health and quarantine measures implemented by travel companies and destinations.''

According to Forbes, too many hotels neglect to inform guests about their COVID-19 precautions. Here are some ways to tell if your destination is safe:

  • The hotel should publish specific information about its cleaning efforts, including how often areas are cleaned and which amenities have been removed because of the increased risk of transmission, such as communal morning coffee service in the lobby.
  • It supports the Safe Stay initiative of the American Hotel & Lodging Association that is an industry-wide effort focused on enhanced hotel cleaning practices, social interactions and workplace protocols to meet the challenges of COVID-19.
  • It has implemented changes in its refund and cancellation policies to reflect today’s uncertain times.

The hotel industry has also opened its door to extra amenities that are aimed to attract cautious COVID-19 travelers. Besides the basic precautions outlined by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and other healthcare authorities, hotels worldwide are now luring back customers by making medical care, touchless cleaning, and robotic assistance as part of their package perks.

According to CNN, guests staying at Atlantis, The Palm, in Dubai, can have free PCR testing in the comfort of their room or suite. Club Meds, known for their all-inclusive policy, say they will cover all emergency medical visits related to COVID-19 for their guests including lab tests, transportation and even childcare.

But if you simply want to find a hotel for a quick getaway, the Safe Traveler Barometer compiled a list of the safest coronavirus-focused hotels in America and why they were selected, according to Forbes.
