Better Sunscreens Tied Up in FDA Bureaucracy

Sunscreens in the U.S. are lacking compared to those sold abroad and it's because federal regulators haven't approved any new ingredients in years, Time magazine reports.
Better sunscreen ingredients and products do exist than those on the market, say experts, but they have been tied up for years in the Food and Drug Administration's drug-approval process. Active ingredients like SPF are regulated as drugs in the United States.

But a bipartisan bill called the Sunscreen Innovation Act — currently under review by Congress — is aiming to speed the process.
