Attractive Men Are More Selfish: Study

In research findings that not likely to surprise most woman, a new study has determined that attractive men tend to be more selfish.

Researchers from Brunel University London in the U.K. found that good-looking guys are less generous and less likely to favor equality, though this was not the case for attractive women, Medical News Today reports.

For the study, published in the journal Evolutionary Psychology, lead investigator Michael Price, M.D., said his team measured the bodies of 63 men and 62 women using a 3D body scanner and assigned “attractiveness scores” based on their body measurements, including waist-to-chest ratio for men, waist-to-hip ratio for women and slimness.

Participants also completed a personality questionnaire about their attitudes toward selfishness and inequality, and took part in an experiment, in which they were given money and asked to decide how much to share with another individual.

The results showed men with higher scores on attractiveness were more selfish and less egalitarian than men with lower attractiveness scores. Women with higher attractiveness scores, however, were just as generous and egalitarian than those with lower scores.

"Our results showed that in fact we may be justified in expecting more attractive men to behave in ways that are less favorable to economic and social equality," Dr. Price said.
