Amazon has begun selling software that mines patients’ medical records for important pieces of data that doctors and hospitals hope to use to improve treatment and lower costs, The Wall Street Journal reports.

Amazon Web Services sells text-analysis software that can sift through digitized records and notes.

“We’re able to completely, automatically look inside medical language and identify patient details with incredibly high accuracy,” said Matt Wood, a general manager at Amazon Web Services who focuses on artificial intelligence.

The company provides similar software for use in booking travel plans, organizing supply-chains and for customer support, but its use in health care follows Amazon’s earlier foray into the market with its purchase of the online pharmacy PillPack Inc. for $1 billion, which has begun working with hospitals to sell medical supplies.

The company is also working on an app that would be “embedded in electronic medical records,” according to the Journal, that doctors could use to recommend products to patients.
