Can My Testosterone Be Too High?

By    |   Friday, 19 September 2014 10:50 AM EDT

Question: I am a postmenopausal woman and my doctor tells me my testosterone is too high. What should I do?

Dr. Hibberd's answer:

First of all, ask your doctor to check your free and total testosterone levels to confirm your elevated reading. If so, you should have an ultrasound screening of your ovaries and adrenal glands for signs of abnormal growth.

I would also recommend that you request a referral to an endocrinologist, if an obvious cause of your high testosterone levels is not evident.
