Question: Are there any alternatives to wearing a CPAP (continuous positive airway pressure) mask for snoring? My husband snores (he doesn’t have apnea) but says he can’t sleep with a CPAP mask. What do you recommend?
Dr. Hibberd's answer:
There are fortunately other options for sleep apnea, presuming your husband snores because of some variation of upper airway obstruction — whether or not apnea is present. A CPAP mask is not always necessary.
To start, there are various cushioned nasal devices that can be as effective as a mask, without the discomfort.
You should have him consult a physician or sleep apnea specialist, as some patients may have their apnea improved by minimally invasive procedures.
For example, for the majority of sleep apnea patients, weight management is one of the best long-term solutions, so seek personalized advice from your physician
