Can High-Protein Diet Reduce My Hair Loss?

By    |   Friday, 29 May 2015 01:01 PM EDT

Question: A few years back I started losing my hair (my brother is almost completely bald on top and he’s 5 years younger than me). But I recently switched to a low-carb, high-protein diet and I swear my hair is fuller. Anything to that? Can what you eat really have an effect on hair loss?

Dr. Hibberd's answer:

Hard for me to say, except that I’m glad you found a non-drug way to improve your hair loss!

There is pretty good evidence that what you eat not only affects your metabolism and your hormones, but directly affects the health of your skin, nails, and hair.

So, here’s to a healthy diet and a healthy head of hair!
