Question: Is there a drug-free alternative to managing my rheumatoid arthritis pain? I don’t want to load up on painkillers.
Dr. Hibberd's answer:
Rheumatoid arthritis is an immune disorder that literally destroys not only cartilage tissue and joints, but also affects many other organ systems. Treatment must be aggressive to reduce painful consequences of this very serious disorder.
But does not necessarily mean you need to be taking lots of medications. We now have many much more simple treatment options to arrest this condition, and you should discuss these newer options with your rheumatologist.
There are-drug free options available for pain management, including nerve or spinal cord stimulators through surgical resection. But all these options require detailed disease analysis of your risk/benefit ratios, and should be done in consultation with your primary physician and possibly specialists.
