Hot flashes are typically associated with women in their menopause years, when their estrogen production from their ovaries is abruptly reduced. This does not occur in men because males are largely testosterone-dependent, and production of the hormone from the testes remains for a lifetime.
 

Testosterone hormone level reductions in males, though reduced from high levels earlier in life, are not usually associated with hot flashes. But some men do experience hot flashes or sweats as a result of certain conditions, such as an underlying infection, hormonal aberration (caused by hyperthyroidism, diabetes, or other diseases), inflammation or even a malignancy (cancer or not).
