Are Hormones to Blame for My Thinning Hair?

By    |   Friday, 11 July 2014 09:47 AM EDT

Question: What can be done for a menopausal woman who has a high testosterone level and is experiencing hair loss?

Dr. Hibberd's answer:

Menopausal women with high testosterone may experience hair loss from excessive hair follicle stimulation. One remedy would be to use topical Rogaine and consider a doctor evaluation to see if your excess testosterone levels are abnormally high or within normal limits.

If they are high, the source of elevated testosterone will need to be determined and corrected to stem your hair loss.
