Question: How can I tell if I’m getting enough exercise? I have a busy job in retail (and am on my fight six to eight hours most days of the week), and don’t have the time or energy to get to the gym. Is there any test I can have done to determine my fitness level?
Dr. Hibberd's answer:
If you have to guess about whether you’re getting enough exercise, you’re probably not. Gyms aren’t the only way to get a workout in, and are best suited for those who have the time or enjoy the social interaction at the gym.
Consider incorporating physical activities you like into your weekly regimen, and your exercise issue will be solved. Walk, bike, swim. All are healthy activities that will boost your heart rate and fitness level.
Your fitness can be quite easily evaluated by your physician by assessing your body fat content and cardiovascular function, using a simple test approved by insurance companies.
Other factors to consider: Smoking, lung disease, high cholesterol, diabetes, hypertension, and other health issues.
