Can Colonoscopy Cause Irregularity?

By    |   Tuesday, 27 May 2014 09:40 AM EDT

Question: I had my first colonoscopy earlier this year and everything was fine. But now I have a problem with regularity. Things don't seem to be working as well as before. Is this common or something I should have checked out?

Dr. Hibberd's answer:

You need to get it checked out. Changes in bowel habits should always be evaluated, regardless of whether you had a colonoscopy or not.

A colonoscopy does not provide immunity from disease or malignancy, but is simply a snapshot in time of your colon health.
