Question: What is the best vitamin or food source for a better memory and to avoid Alzheimer’s disease?
Dr. Hibberd’s answer:
There is no single or multivitamin formulation or food source that we know of that will improve memory or that prevents Alzheimer’s disease. The best treatment we have at the moment are prescription drugs that slow the progression of Alzheimer’s disease, but they will not prevent its onset.
The best prevention strategies seem to involve remaining active, making healthy diet choices, avoiding toxin exposure, aggressive prevention of cardiovascular disease, and engaging in brain-stimulating activities — such as reading, concentration, memory games, and puzzles.
Inactivity — mentally and physically — can increase the risks for Alzheimer’s.
There is much current research in this area and hopefully we can have better options in the near future.
