Vegan Diet Reduces Hot Flashes

Around three-quarters of women experience hot flashes — sporadic, sudden increases in body temperature — starting before they have their last period and recurring two or more times a day for around two years, according to Johns Hopkins Medicine. About 20% will experience them for a longer stretch of time.

The flashes can disrupt sleep, work, fun, and exercise. So anything that naturally tamps them down is a welcome tool.

A new two-part study by the Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine suggests that adopting a low-fat vegan diet that contains half a cup of cooked soybeans daily changes the mix of microbes in your gut, and that is associated with major relief from hot flashes.

Over a 12-week period, the participants who switched to a vegan diet saw a 95% drop in the number of severe and moderate hot flashes they experienced both during daytime and at night. They also lost an average of around 6.5 pounds.

The health benefits of a plant-based diet (especially if you add in salmon) is one of the pillars of the LongevityPlaybook.com program to fight aging. Not only can it help regulate inflammation and glucose levels by nurturing a healthier gut, it can improve your mood and attitude.

Add that physical activity, along with support to help you create a posse and purpose, and you're ready to discover how 60 can be the new 40.
